Amateur / Ham Radio Repair/Alignment
For many of us, Ham or Amateur radio is a part of our everyday life. It is a convenient method of communication and socializing. We count on them! We depend on them. Without them – we feel we are isolated. They provide a means of entertainment. Some are units that are established as a base unit to provide means of contacting others or perhaps even a group. Others are mobile mounted to keep us informed of changes in our daily routine. Yet another type is a portable or HT (Handie-Talkie). These, we carry around, drop, sit on, etc. Ham Radio defects are typically not very severe.

Pack it well with hard foam and or bubble wrap (not newspaper or old sweaters. Foam peanuts are ONLY good UP TO 8 POUNDS)! They will crumble up and get into switches, controls and fans and cause even more problems. Don’t use them.
These thin sheets of hard foam are just as bad.
If you have only one rig and need it done quickly – WE DO OFFER an EXPEDITED SERVICE at $65/hr. If interested, please indicate so on the form.

Ham Radio Repairs
Technical Specialists began in 1991 doing much the same as we do now: component level repair of electronics circuits. Ham Radio repair means that we replace the components on the board that are defective rather than replace the entire board. Transistors and ICs cost only a fraction of the cost of a replacement board (typically about 3%). Replacement of Ham radios usually costs from hundreds to thousands of dollars. Repair is a mere fraction of this. Sometimes the component is no longer available and we have no choice but replace the entire board (if it’s even available). Our services are not restricted to transceivers. We repair Tuners, Power Supplies amps and whatever other accessories you have around the shack!
We service all brands including Icom, Kenwood, Alinco, Ten-Tec, Yaesu Anytone, TYT, G90 and most others!

Our Procedure
Within 15 days (usually less) of receiving the defective ham radio, we will diagnose the problem and contact you with the cost of repair. In the majority of cases we have already done so as it is often difficult to be certain there are no additional failures. We don’t just get them working and send them back because we back up our service with a 2 MONTH GUARANTEE!
Our Policies
Since we have outside help that comes in and does the shipping and receiving we will charge a small fee to properly pack and ship it back via USPS (usually 1/2 hour but sometimes more, depending on time required). Typically, we ship on Fridays.
When the label is created – you will get a tracking number from Stamps.com. Don’t let that email go to spam or junk folders.
For 10 years I have not increased my rate but finally I have to. Now, our labor rate is $45 per hour. You will not find a better price anywhere. How can we do it? It’s because we have plenty of technical data, all the required equipment, one of the most complete parts inventories anywhere and most of all – many years of experience. Most Ham radios are repaired in 3 to 4 hours while some may take longer, some less. Parts installed range from $1 to $22 typically. Complete boards often cost hundreds…
Estimates
You can ask for an estimate. There will be a $45 fee which applies to the repair if you choose to have it repaired. Understand that it will cause a delay in completion time. There will be a fee for packing and unpacking the unit, usually at 1/2 hour labor, but sometimes 1 hour. We have a retired ham that comes in once a week to do all the packing and unpacking. He does a fantastic job and is proud of his work…
You can save time and money by providing us with a reasonable maximum cost of repair that you agree to in advance. This way, we don’t have to reassemble the unit, write it up, send you the estimate, wait for a reply and if accepted-put the work order back in the queue. We can finish it up right then.
