The shooting occurred at a home on 92nd Street North in unincorporated Largo around 3:45 a.m. Detectives say the father, Samuel Joseph Shammos, 51, and his son, Michael Craig Shammos, 28, were in a physical altercation when the father shot the son once in the upper body. “He was a nice, cheerful fella,” said neighbor Sandra Whitley of Sam. “Working on his boat all the time.” Michael Shammos was pronounced dead at the scene. Michael served in the U.S. Army. Whitley told ABC Action News there was turmoil in the household between the sons and the father. “A lot of arguing. A lot of fighting, kicking the sons out often,” Whitley said. Samuel Shammos was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries he received during the fight. Samuel has a previous arrest in October 2007 of unemployment compensation fraud and a January 2007 arrest for domestic battery. Michael has previous arrests for fleeing and alluding a law enforcement officer and DUI.
